There
is a lot of confusion and fear about who needs a Commercial Drivers
License in California. We will provide some information here that should
help you be more comfortable by having better information. Basically,
if you buy a truck that has a G.V.W.R. (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) of
26,001 lbs. or more, you are required to have a Commercial Drivers
License. There are some other scenarios where you would need one, but
that is the basic threshold. Below is a Commercial Drivers License
Manual from the State of California DMV. If you read the first 10 or so
pages, you should have all the answers you might need. In addition, the
process to secure a Commercial Drivers License is not difficult. It is
all explained in the manual. Most light and medium duty trucks do not
require a CDL.
We have also provided a link to a national website to learn about DMV information in other states.
